Before and After: A (New) Warm Welcome

“I cannot say enough good things about the amazing landscape Victoria Gardens created at our home. It is a complete transformation. Victoria’s eye for recreating our entrance was spot on. The landscape now completes the approach to our door.

Bob started coming in through the new entrance instead of the garage and said “I love walking in this way”!

Victoria and her team are top notch in my book!”

Before

When we started consulting on this property, there were a couple different issues at play.

  • The green railing at the entrance of the house narrowed the entryway and almost seemed—at certain angles—to block it off completely.

  • The sidewalk leading to the house’s entryway ended at the garage to the left (left in the above picture). The family often left the garage door open and entered the house that way.

  • The sidewalk hugged the shape of the house with that sharp right-hand corner and therefore didn’t stand out on it’s own as a welcoming pathway.

  • The grass lacked any kind of shape and purpose, so it felt almost like a side yard.

So what was the fix?

  • Soften the shape of the sidewalk. It flows like water now with two gentle curves instead of one sharp corner. (Ramp the walkway with a gentle slope to bring you up to the stairs in a more natural way.)

  • Extend the sidewalk out past the garage entrance. Moved it out to greet people!

  • Remove the railing and install wide welcoming stone slab stairs instead.

  • Finally, create a “doorway” with the addition of the arbor. The structure has weight and feels important. It signals to people that THIS is the way.

Everything about this garden, sidewalk, and entryway now offer a warm welcome into this home.

The lawn will be reseeded in the areas with no mulch.

Side by side before and after shows how a few changes can give the front yard an entirely different feel.
